Just 4 days until we reopen for the 2024 season and we can’t wait for everyone to see the newly refurbished pond.

1st March we open at 10am and will be open daily there after until 15th November!

Winter is usually a time of year when we slow down and get a much needed rest but when we closed the gates for 2023 we were already insanely busy preparing to dive into the huge project of relining the koi pond and my gosh was it a huge undertaking!

When the garden began development in 1990 my parents (Robert and Stella Hore) began the design and development of the garden and part of that epic task was to dig out, line and prepare the koi pond. The pond liner was designed to last about 30 years and after this time it will begin to degrade and cause problems. To reline the pond the koi had to be removed, the rocks had to be removed from all around the edge of the pond, plants had to be unplanted and the waterfalls had to be dismantled. It was by no means an easy job to even take apart the pond, let alone put it back together but with the help of Cornwall Ponds Stuart has worked intensively with the staff to get the new liner in place and redesign the rockscapes surrounding the area.

It hasn’t been a restful winter but we are so pleased with the results and the Koi have now re-entered their new home and seem to be loving exploring the waters once again.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone for the season and at 10am this Friday (1st March) we open our doors for 2024!
