May 1st 1997 the Japanese Garden here in Cornwall opened to the public! It is quite surreal to think that was 26 years ago.
Bank holiday Monday – the 1st of May (Mayday) we are open as usual – with our normal opening hours: 10am until 6pm – last garden entry 5pm.
The garden has changed so much over the years with trees maturing and growing so much that other plants have now been taken out to keep the beauty of form and shape. The evolution of the garden is quite remarkable and the way it has developed over the years has been fascinating to watch.
Today I walked around the garden with my camera in hand looking at the Japanese maples and azaleas which are now looking really beautiful. My eye was caught by so many shapes and colours – and spring feels like its everywhere now.
There is always a sense of excitement and hope at this time of year. An anticipation of what’s to come.
The cherry trees are just at the end of their blooming now – with just one pink cherry still holding on to its blossoms.
Spring is such an exciting time to see the plants as everything is brimming with bright colour, blossoms are bursting and everywhere you look there’s something sprouting!
