Chinese Elm (Ulmus Parvifolia)

A fantastic Bonsai for any beginner due to its hardy nature and fast growth. This species will live indoors or outdoors and can handle a very cold frost. When kept in the right conditions it will grow fast, giving a Bonsai enthusiast good practice at pruning. It is a deciduous tree so will drop leaves in Autumn/Winter. It also roots really well from cuttings, so with a little Bonsai Compost you can grow many more little Bonsai’s of your own. The Chinese Elm is part of the Elm family.

Each of these beautiful little starter trees come with a free ‘Bonsai Care Guide’ booklet which was written to give a beginner all the information they need to get started with growing Bonsai.

The Bonsai you will get if you purchase one of these trees will not be one of the examples in the pictures. I have tried to show a range of examples of the Chinese Elms in the photographs and one will be selected at random when a purchase is made.

Chinese Elm (Ulmus Parvifolia)

Broom style (Hokidachi)
The broom style is suitable for deciduous trees with large numbers of fine and delicate branching. The trunk is straight and upright and does not continue to the top of the tree; it branches out in all directions at about 1/3 the height of the tree. The branches and leaves form a ball-shaped top which is beautiful in leaf but also a stunning sight during the colder months when the leaves have dropped.
Each of these beautiful little starter trees come with a free ‘Bonsai Care Guide’ booklet which was written to give a beginner all the information they need to get started with growing Bonsai. Please read the booklet when your tree arrives and follow the instructions. If you have any questions you are welcome to drop us an email (which can be found on the back of your booklet) together with the major ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ list 😊

Chinese Elms are very tolerant and hardy trees; making them superb Bonsai for beginners and they should travel well by post; however, they are likely to drop some leaves during their journey and when they first arrive at their new home, so don’t be alarmed if you see a few leaves dropping at first. We will make sure your tree is well watered prior to being packaged and sent to you, so it shouldn’t dry out during transit. When it arrives take it out and remove all the packaging and position your tree in a well lit spot (outside or near a window), check the surface soil for moisture and water accordingly (follow instructions in your ‘Bonsai Care Guide’.

We have lots of these trees in stock and each one is unique! Although they are all classed as ‘Broom Style’, the variety of shapes and sizes is quite remarkable. The tree you will get if you purchase one of these trees will not be one of the examples in the pictures. I have tried to show a range of examples of the Chinese Elms in the photographs and one will be selected at random when a purchase is made.
