October Comes With Glorious Colours

October has arrived and with it comes so much beautiful colour!

I love this month as we begin to see the wonderful transformation in the garden. The Japanese maples change at different rates but most will give us a spectacular show this month.

Its not just the maples though – the cherry trees are already showing off some of their vivid orange and red tones which will continue until the green will have vanished completely.

Autumn is without a doubt the messiest time of year with leaves dropping to the ground almost every moment. The pathways look littered with leaves as the day goes on and the gardeners can never keep up (despite how hard they try lol) – nature really feels like its taking back ownership of the garden at this time.

I love the contrast of Autumn compared to Spring here – the spring gives us colour too – vibrant, fresh new leaves and flowers, flowers, flowers, and everywhere you look you see tidy, manicured areas where growth is yet to burst forth. Autumn, in contrast – you see leaves everywhere, motion in the air as they fall with every gust of wind, messiness as the leaves let go. The colour change is spectacular as the season progresses and by the end of October and the beginning of November (usually) we are dazzled by the vivid colours on display almost everywhere you look in the garden.

It won’t be long now – just a few weeks before we get to see that peak.

Today I visited the garden and had a wonderful chat with a couple of visitors who were enjoying their first visit to us.

It felt wonderful for me to spend some time in the garden and capture a few photographs. Its always surprising how fast the changes happen at this time – only a week ago the space looked very different.
