June Has Begun

June has arrived and it looks like some sunshine has too!

What a beautiful day to capture some photos – I was lucky enough to steal a few minutes to visit today and the sun was radiating down the whole time. The garden has so many mature trees now that there is still plenty of shade but the light peeks through the leaves and gives everything that summer glow.

There are still a few flowers to be seen from some of the late flowering azaleas and a couple of irises and lilies but as we move from spring to summer you can see the garden transitioning into its summer colours and the flowers become less. Traditional Japanese gardens are usually not big flower gardens; tending towards texture, foliage, moss and architecture rather than flowers. Our garden celebrates the fusion of Japanese application of gardening with our Cornish placement with many native plants growing alongside the classic Japanese varieties and we have a range of flowering plants that go wild in spring. Now as we enter the summer months the flowers give way to the trees, and the plants that were backdrops to the flowering plants become more significant in the viewing spaces.

This is one thing I love about gardens – they are always changing and not a single day does the space look exactly the same. Nature really is incredible.

This week we have been busy pruning Bonsai and appreciating some of the stunning Japanese Bonsai we have in stock – 2 magnificent Satsuki Azaleas are now flowering in our outdoor Bonsai area.

We have also had another delivery of wind chimes arrive and our £5 maple saplings have arrived too.
