Bonsai Compost

The compost you use to grow Bonsai (or any plants for that matter) is hugely important. Our Bonsai compost is very nutrient rich and free draining which allows trees, plants and even succulent to thrive when planted in to it.

We have been growing Bonsai using our compost for over 30 years and have always had great success with our growing and cultivation as a result.

Imported trees are usually potted in to a very clay based compost which tends to be very water retentive (thus allowing growers to water their plants less often) however many species of Bonsai do not like this kind of growing medium and therefore can suffer with root problems as a result. Trees that arrive at The Japanese Garden are immediately repotted in to our own Bonsai Compost and the results in growth over the following weeks are always astounding.

HORTICULTURAL GRIT 3MM

3mm Horticultural Grit is a wonderful addition to your Bonsai Tool kit. We use this grit in our Bonsai Compost, to dress the top of our Bonsai pots and even as a layer on the bottom of our pots for our Bonsai that require extra drainage. The grit is typically a grey/off-white colour and is designed to be used with plants so its completely safe for use with Bonsai.

AKADAMA GROWING MEDIUM BAG

This famous growing medium is used by professional Bonsai growers all over the world. Low in nutrients and very free-draining it allows growers to control exactly what nutrient balance is used by a tree (as its not included in the Akadama) and avoids potential over-watering issues. With Akadama growers will often water more frequently than when using other growing mediums and will feed their trees more regularly (initially after repotting).

TRANSLUCENT PARASOL LARGE

Translucent silky parasol traditionally hand-made from bamboo and hand-painted with various floral detail. Made with see-through fabric, these translucent parasols allow the intricate bamboo framework to be seen. They provide less shade but are great as accessories or for internal decoration.

WOODSTOCK TEMPLE BELLS QUINTET COPPER

Bells have been used throughout the ages to accompany dance, to provide comfort and to warn of possible danger. The Chinese were the first to control the pitch or note of a bell, making it possible for them to play tunes. Soon bells were being used to accompany worship. On New Year’s Eve the bells in Buddhist temples are rung 108 times, once for each of the 108 worldly desires.

In the East bells have become very important and are often decorated with significant symbols. For centuries, tuned bells have been suspended in homes and temples to ward off evil and attract good luck and prosperity. Woodstock Temple Bells are inspired by these ancient bells and work in harmony with the wind to create gentle, soothing tones.
